New artwork: It’s Her Turn to Cook, The Troll is a Dirty Old Man

November 13, 2010

After hearing that it is her turn to cook the holiday meal Barbie decided to end it all by hanging herself. She knew the family would hate her if she said, “NO, I am not going to cook” and that the easiest way out would be to die.The original Barbie doll was not made by Mattel, but LaVonne couldn’t resist her green face when she came up with the idea for this piece. The original doll was bald so of course LaVonne gave her some hair.

LaVonne made this piece in conjunction with the Mira Theater’s (Vallejo) production of the Diary of Anne Frank and was invited, along with other artists, to show her work before and after the show. Jean, who coordinated the artists said to LaVonne in an email:

“Your piece made a woman cry the other night, wow. Very powerful piece. Thank you. It’s been one of the best shows we’ve had at the theater.”
