The 8th Annual San Francisco Altered Barbie Exhibition 2010: A Date with Barbie!

September 14, 2010

It’s Altered Barbie Exhibition time again in San Francisco and there are some great events lined up for you altered Barbie enthusiasts all month long! Check out the work of the participating artists, including our very own LaVonne Sallee, here.

The show, presented by ChatterBox Arts International, opened this past weekend at Shotwell 50 Studio and the Department of the Environment and runs through September 30th.

The Altered Barbie Exhibition is about people coming together to transform these relatable and relevant icons into not so everyday ART that reflects our current society. Making Art from Barbie and Ken creates dialogue and community where there is none.

The Artists Process: A Conversation takes place this Wednesday, 9/15 and there you’ll find out what motivates altered Barbie artists to do what they do and the meaning they find in their work.

The Artists Reception takes place this Thursday 9/16, and you are invited to come dressed as your favorite Birthday Barbie or Ken and meet the artists who have resurrected and reinvented Ken and Barbie into art and performance.

You can find the full event calendar here on the event website. We hope to see you there!
